Russia attacked Ukraine with jet drones: air defense intercepted majority of targets
On October 15, Russian troops continued massive attacks on Ukraine, employing 138 strike drones during the day. The majority of these were jet drones, which are especially challenging for Ukrainian air defense.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in its evening summary.
According to military data, out of the 138 recorded drones, 90 were jet-powered. Thus, high-speed aerial vehicles accounted for about 65% of all drones used by Russia during the day attack.
Air defense forces shot down or suppressed 125 Russian UAVs. Among the neutralized targets were 79 jet drones.
Thus, the overall effectiveness of neutralizing drones during this attack was about 91%, and for jet-powered vehicles specifically nearly 88%.
Jet drones differ from ordinary Shaheds by significantly higher speed, which reduces the time for detection and interception of air targets. Their use complicates the work of traditional mobile fire groups and requires faster countermeasures.
In recent months, Russia has significantly increased the use of such vehicles. In particular, Ukrainian military has reported the use of jet modifications "Geran-4" and "Geran-5".
Earlier, the Air Force stated that Ukraine already uses robotic turrets with elements of artificial intelligence to destroy jet drones. At the same time, development of specialized high-speed interceptor drones continues.
The daytime attack on October 15 followed one of Russia's largest night attacks. According to the Air Force, from the evening of October 14 to the morning of October 15, the Russian army launched 580 drones of various types and two guided air-to-surface missiles Kh-59.
During the night attack, Ukrainian air defense shot down or suppressed 536 drones. Impacts of air attack means were recorded at 31 locations, and falling debris at another 11.
The evening summary of the Air Force covers a separate period of the daytime attack and does not include results of the previous night.
