Heating season starts in Kyiv, but some districts will remain without heat for now
In Kyiv, the heating season 2026-2027 begins on October 16. Hospitals, schools, kindergartens and other social institutions will receive heat first. At the same time, in parts of Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts, connection is currently impossible due to significant damage to energy infrastructure.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this in his Telegram channel.
"From today, October 16, in extreme conditions due to constant shelling, we are starting the heating season. First, as usual, for social institutions," the mayor said.
An exception will be part of the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts of the capital. According to Klitschko, the energy facility on which heat supply to these territories depends recently suffered significant damage as a result of a Russian attack.
Currently, specialists continue restoration work. The mayor did not specify when exactly social institutions in these parts of the districts will be able to receive heat.
Connection of hospitals, schools, kindergartens and other social institutions will not happen simultaneously, but according to individual requests from their managers.
Klitschko has not yet announced the start of centralized heating for residential buildings. The declared start of the heating season primarily concerns social institutions.
The heating season in Kyiv begins amid a difficult situation in the capital's energy system. In recent days, Russian troops have repeatedly attacked energy infrastructure facilities, leading to emergency power outages and disruptions in the operation of utility systems.
In particular, on October 16, due to new attacks on energy facilities in Kyiv, emergency power cuts were introduced again. During such restrictions, previously published hourly outage schedules do not apply.
