Searches in the NBU may be related to "Karpatnaftokhim" and Sense Bank - Zheleznyak
Searches in the National Bank of Ukraine, which became known on October 21, may be related to the activities of the petrochemical enterprise "Karpatnaftokhim" and the possible influence of third parties on the management of the state-owned Sense Bank. This version was announced by Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak, citing several of his own sources.
The parliamentarian reported this in his Telegram channel. According to him, in both stories the businessman Vasyl Veselyi appears, whom the deputy calls an informal curator of the state bank from the President's Office.
Zheleznyak claims that the possible reasons for the searches at the NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi relate specifically to "Karpatnaftokhim" and the influence of third parties on Sense Bank. At the same time, he did not provide documentary evidence of the connection of these circumstances with the current investigative actions.
In confirmation of previous contradictions around these issues, the deputy released a video fragment of a meeting of the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada from September 2, 2026.
During the meeting, Zheleznyak asked Pyshnyi whether meetings or conversations took place with his participation, as well as with the participation of Vasyl Veselyi, former head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak, and representatives of "Karpatnaftokhim".
The NBU Governor categorically denied that such a meeting took place. After several clarifying questions, he repeated: "No, I did not have such a meeting".
Another dispute around Pyshnyi and Veselyi arose in September after the testimony of former Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Sense Bank Shevki Adjuner.
During the parliamentary TSC meeting on September 10, Adjuner stated that it was Pyshnyi who recommended Vasyl Veselyi as a person capable of establishing bank communication with state bodies. According to the former head of the supervisory board, Veselyi was introduced to him during a meeting in the NBU premises.
Pyshnyi himself denied these claims the same day. He stated that he did not recommend Veselyi for work at Sense Bank, did not give personnel instructions to the supervisory board, and did not interfere in its decisions. At the same time, the NBU head confirmed that he personally knows the businessman.
The story of "Karpatnaftokhim" and Sense Bank was previously the subject of journalistic investigations. In May 2026, "Ukrainska Pravda" released materials that referred to possible influence of private individuals associated with the former leadership of the President's Office on the management of the state bank and the assets of the petrochemical enterprise.
According to journalists, in the recordings of conversations of the defendants in the "Midas" case, Vasyl Veselyi discussed with Oleksandr Tsukerman issues related to "Karpatnaftokhim" and the management of Sense Bank. Earlier, the brother of businessman Andriy Veselyi became a co-owner of the petrochemical enterprise.
Vasyl Veselyi himself denied that he served as an informal manager of the state bank or had influential connections in the President's Office. He also claimed that his brother bought a stake in "Karpatnaftokhim" with his own funds.
At the same time, former Chairman of the Board of Sense Bank Oleksiy Stupak previously stated that Veselyi lost his authority as an advisor after the completion of the work of the previous supervisory board and no longer worked at the bank.
What is officially known about the searches
On October 21, NABU confirmed that its detectives, under the procedural guidance of the SAPO, are conducting searches in the premises of the National Bank and at the place of residence of one of the institution's employees.
The bureau reported that no one was detained or notified of suspicion. At the same time, law enforcement officers did not name Andriy Pyshnyi and did not disclose the circumstances of the criminal proceedings.
Earlier, Members of Parliament and media reported investigative actions directly at the NBU Governor. The National Bank itself confirmed the conduct of searches in its premises and stated that it continues to work as usual.
Thus, the connection of the searches with "Karpatnaftokhim", Sense Bank, or Vasyl Veselyi currently remains an unconfirmed version of the Member of Parliament. NABU and SAPO have not officially reported that they are investigating these specific circumstances within the current investigative actions.
