Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Andriy Pyshnyi stated that during the searches on October 21, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau found nothing that could indicate offenses committed by him or NBU employees. According to him, the investigative actions were completed without revealing such evidence.
The head of the National Bank reported this on October 21 on his Facebook page, publicly commenting for the first time on the searches conducted by anti-corruption agencies.
Pyshnyi claims that NABU detectives found no circumstances indicating that he personally or other officials of the National Bank committed crimes.
However, the statement by the head of the regulator does not mean official closure of the criminal proceedings. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau has not yet released conclusions of the investigation that would confirm the absence of violations.
On the morning of October 21, NABU detectives under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office conducted searches at the premises of the National Bank and at the residence of one of its employees.
As Forbes Ukraine reported, NABU confirmed the conduct of investigative actions, emphasizing that they were sanctioned and carried out in accordance with the law.
The bureau also stated that during the searches no one was detained or notified of suspicion. Law enforcement officers refused to disclose other details, citing the secrecy of the pre-trial investigation.
Earlier, people's deputies Yaroslav Zheleznyak and Oleksiy Honcharenko, as well as a number of Ukrainian media, reported searches directly in Pyshnyi's office. NABU did not officially name the head of the regulator among the persons subjected to investigative actions.
As Kurs.com.ua reported earlier, Zheleznyak suggested that the searches may be related to the activities of the state-owned Sense Bank and the petrochemical enterprise "Karpatneftekhim".
However, the deputy did not provide documentary evidence of this version. NABU also did not report that the investigative actions were carried out specifically within investigations related to these companies.
Against the backdrop of the searches, information appeared about the possible resignation of the head of the National Bank. In particular, the publication Delo.ua reported that Pyshnyi allegedly wrote a letter of resignation of his own accord.
However, the National Bank refuted these reports. According to the regulator, as of 3:00 PM on October 21, Pyshnyi had not submitted a resignation letter. The NBU also emphasized that the institution continues to operate normally.
Thus, at present, the conduct of searches and the absence of detained persons and announced suspicions are officially confirmed. The claim about the absence of discovered evidence of offenses belongs to Pyshnyi himself. NABU has not publicly disclosed the procedural results of the investigative actions.
