On the evening of October 21 and the night of October 22, Russian forces carried out a series of ballistic strikes on Kyiv. As a result of the attack, transport, commercial, and medical infrastructure of the capital was damaged, including the Southern Bridge, metro facilities, the Epicenter hypermarket, a car service station, and commercial buildings. Fires and destruction were recorded in six districts of the city.
The consequences of the shelling were reported by the State Emergency Service, the Kyiv City State Administration, and Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
One of the most significant consequences of the attack was the damage to metro infrastructure on the Southern Bridge. Because of this, on the morning of October 22, train traffic on the Syretsko-Pecherska line was organized on two separate sections: from Syrets station to Vydubychi and from Osokorky to Chervonyi Khutir.
The Kyiv City State Administration warned of possible increased intervals between trains. Rolling stock that remained overnight in the tunnels is being used to transport passengers. Inspection of damaged infrastructure and restoration work should ensure a return to normal traffic.
The Southern Bridge was also temporarily closed to road transport in the direction from the right to the left bank. Due to restrictions, city authorities increased the operation of bus routes No. 22 and No. 91. On route No. 22, the number of buses is being increased from 10 to 12, with five of them running on a shortened route from Trostianetska Street to Lybidska metro station. On route No. 91, the number of buses is being increased from three to five.
Separately, in the Darnytskyi district, a Russian attack damaged a transport infrastructure facility. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a hit on its territory.
The commercial infrastructure of the Obolonskyi district suffered significant destruction. According to Espreso, the Epicenter hypermarket in the Pochayna area came under attack. The building was damaged over an area of about 1000 square meters. A fire broke out nearby in a postal cargo department. Firefighters, police, and medics worked at the scene.
The State Emergency Service also reported damage to other non-residential buildings in the Obolonskyi district. Fires caused by the shelling were extinguished by rescuers. The final amount of damage to commercial facilities has not yet been determined.
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, fires broke out in a non-residential building and a restaurant complex. The total area of the fire was 1100 square meters. Rescuers extinguished the fire.
In the Dniprovskyi district, according to Klitschko, a hit was recorded on a car service station building. Private residential buildings, other structures, and cars were also damaged. In the Holosiivskyi district, a Russian strike hit a non-residential building.
In the Pecherskyi district, the building of an emergency medical station and six ambulances were damaged. According to the mayor, medical staff were not injured. In addition, damage to other buildings and a monastery was recorded in the district.
According to the latest data from the State Emergency Service, as a result of the attacks on Kyiv, one person died and 22 were injured, including four children. Earlier, the mayor reported that eight wounded are in city hospitals.
City authorities urge passengers and drivers to take into account temporary changes in transport connections. The timing of full restoration of metro and vehicle traffic on the Southern Bridge had not been announced at the time of morning reports.
