The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on October 26 supported the extension of martial law and general mobilization for another 90 days - until January 29, 2027. 293 and 281 People's Deputies voted for the respective draft laws.
This is evidenced by the voting results announced during the broadcast of the plenary session of the parliament. Information about the extension of martial law was also confirmed by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
First, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 16182 on approving the presidential decree regarding the extension of martial law in Ukraine. The document was supported by 293 deputies.
After that, the parliament voted for draft law No. 16183 on the extension of general mobilization. 281 People's Deputies voted in favor of its adoption.
Both decisions provide for the extension of the respective legal regimes for 90 days - from October 31, 2026 to January 29, 2027. Martial law is extended from 05:30 on October 31.
Martial law and mobilization extended for the 21st time
According to Zheleznyak, this is the 21st vote of the Verkhovna Rada of this convocation regarding the extension of martial law and general mobilization since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The respective draft laws were submitted to the parliament by President Volodymyr Zelensky on the morning of October 26. Both documents were considered and supported within one day.
The previous term of martial law and general mobilization ends on October 31. The new decisions ensure the extension of these regimes without interruption.
After the parliamentary vote, the adopted laws must be signed by the president and officially promulgated.
What the extension means for citizens and business
The extension of martial law provides for the preservation of a special legal regime, within which defense and security measures provided for by legislation may be applied.
For enterprises, the peculiarities of labor relations established for the period of martial law continue to apply, as well as the current mechanisms for booking conscripted employees.
The extension of general mobilization means the preservation of legal grounds for conducting mobilization measures during the next three months.
At the same time, the adopted documents themselves relate to the terms of martial law and mobilization. They do not introduce new rules for military registration, conscription, or booking employees.
Earlier it was reported that President Zelensky proposed to the parliament to extend martial law and general mobilization for another three months. Now both draft laws have received the necessary support from People's Deputies.
