During a phone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin spent almost the entire time talking about the "historical root causes of the conflict" with Ukraine. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing informed interlocutors, according to Європейська правда.
Three interlocutors claim that instead of discussing key issues regarding ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, Putin subjected the leaders of the countries to a long tirade about what the Kremlin calls the "root causes of the conflict".
According to them, the prospect of an immediate ceasefire was barely discussed.
One interlocutor noted that the leaders of the countries decided not to interrupt Putin's historical digressions in order to gauge how serious he is about dialogue with Europe.
As is known, on October 27 the President of Finland and the Prime Minister of Norway, on their own initiative, held a phone conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. According to Stubb, the discussion was "frank and businesslike".
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Stubb and Støre "clearly told" Putin about the need for real de-escalatory steps regarding Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated that she is very skeptical about the results of the phone conversation between Stubb and Støre with Putin. According to Frederiksen, this conversation was not coordinated with other European countries.
