Cash dollar finally reacted to what is happening on the interbank currency market, where the quotes of non-cash dollar began to decline after the news of the NBU discount rate increase.
By the evening of Thursday, October 29, cash dollar in wholesale exchange offices in Kyiv was sold at 46.35 UAH – 15 kopecks lower than the day before. At the same time, in the morning of today, the capital's wholesalers sold dollar at 46.40 UAH, meaning that over the day it became cheaper by only 5 kopecks.
Cash dollar also became cheaper in some regional centers. In Odessa on Thursday evening, dollar could be bought at 46.35 UAH (15 kopecks cheaper than yesterday evening), in Kharkiv – at 46.41 UAH (26 kopecks cheaper), in Dnipro – at 46.45 UAH (15 kopecks cheaper). But in Lviv, on the contrary, dollar rose by 5 kopecks to 46.40 UAH today. As we can see, prices are equalizing between different regions, which indicates a decline in rush demand that caused imbalance between different cities.
Ukrainian banks also began to lower price tags on their boards. The cheapest dollar by the end of Thursday was sold at 45.75 UAH in the Kyiv branch of Sky Bank (most likely, only the numbers on the board were available), and the most expensive – still at Accordbank at 46.65 UAH. Moreover, there was no single trend among banks today: some lowered dollar price tags by evening, others, on the contrary, raised them.
Despite the fact that today the euro on the international currency market FOREX dropped to 1.11045 dollars and renewed its annual minimum, in Ukraine the euro does not significantly cheapen. By this evening, the minimum selling price for the euro started from 51.10 UAH in the Kyiv branch of Sky Bank, and the most expensive euro – at 51.90 UAH – was sold at Trust Capital Bank.
The gap between the cost of non-cash and cash dollar continues to grow. By Thursday evening, it increased by 3 kopecks to 1.03 UAH. This indicates that the rush component of demand in the cash market remains. And only a decrease in this gap will signal that the situation in the cash market is stabilizing.
