A drone attack on October 29 killed an employee of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under Russian occupation. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) received information about the incident and called on the parties for maximum military restraint.

This is stated in an official IAEA report of October 29.

According to preliminary information from the agency, the deceased worked as a welder in the centralized repair workshop of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The IAEA did not specify where exactly the drone strike occurred or which side carried it out. The agency also did not report any possible damage to the nuclear power plant's equipment as a result of this incident.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi condemned any attacks on employees of nuclear facilities. According to him, such actions are absolutely unacceptable and contradict the seven fundamental principles for ensuring nuclear and physical safety during armed conflicts.

Grossi once again called for maximum military restraint to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP, located in temporarily occupied Enerhodar, has been under the control of Russian forces since March 2022. The plant does not generate electricity, but its reactors and safety systems require stable external power supply and constant technical maintenance.

Due to hostilities, damage to power lines and threats to personnel, the IAEA has repeatedly warned about risks to the nuclear safety of Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
