In Warsaw, police detained a 30-year-old man suspected of a knife attack on two Ukrainian citizens on a city bus. According to investigators, the attack was motivated by the victims' nationality. The court placed the suspect in custody for three months.

This was reported on October 30 by the Warsaw district police department serving the Bielany and Żoliborz districts.

According to law enforcement, the attack occurred in mid-October on a public transport bus in the Polish capital. The man inflicted multiple stab wounds on two passengers, then fled the scene before police arrived.

Both victims turned out to be Ukrainian citizens. Due to numerous stab and slash wounds, they were hospitalized. During the investigation, police determined that the attack might have been related specifically to the victims' Ukrainian origin.

Law enforcement quickly identified the likely attacker, but his whereabouts remained unknown for a long time. During the search, it turned out that the 30-year-old man had been hiding and living in a forested area in the Bielany district.

The suspect was detained last weekend. He was taken to the district police department, where, after gathering evidence, he was notified of three criminal charges.

Two charges directly relate to the attack on the Ukrainians. They include attempted grievous bodily harm and causing injuries that resulted in bodily dysfunction lasting more than seven days.

According to Polish police, the man already had a criminal record for a similar intentional crime. He had been serving that previous sentence intermittently from April 2021 to February 2023. Therefore, the new offenses are being considered by investigators as a possible repeat offense.

The third charge is not related to the attack on the Ukrainians. It concerns threats made to another man in August 2024 at an establishment on Shakespeare Street in Warsaw. In that case, he also failed to appear for prosecutor's summons.

At the prosecutor's request, the court imposed a three-month pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the 30-year-old man.

For the alleged crimes, the suspect faces from 3 to 20 years of imprisonment. The investigation is being supervised by the Warsaw-Żoliborz district prosecutor's office.

The man's final guilt is to be determined by the court.
