Naples Airport in Italy will be closed for the whole of November for a major runway upgrading project, according to Eurointegration.

This was reported by "European Pravda" with reference to Euronews.

Naples Airport will shut its doors to carry out extensive refurbishment work on the runway and connecting taxiways, ensuring the long-term safety, reliability and smooth operation of the existing infrastructure.

The project also includes the replacement and upgrade of the airport's aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) systems, which include runway and taxiway lighting, as well as visual aids necessary for guiding aircraft during take-off, landing and taxiing, particularly in low-visibility conditions.

The project, costing around 30 million euros, is being carried out in a period when the number of flights is usually lower than at peak season.

To further minimise disruption, work will be carried out continuously – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Contingency plans have been developed for the event of the airport closure to prevent significant disruption

For passengers who need to reach this region, some airlines plan to redirect their aircraft to the relatively nearby Salerno Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento airports.

To cope with the load associated with the closure of Naples Airport, additional bus services will run throughout November between Piazza Garibaldi in Naples and Salerno Airport.

There are also plans to increase the number of services to Salerno railway station, while existing routes to Potenza, Eboli, Battipaglia and the Amalfi Coast will continue to operate as usual.

For those who do not wish to rely on public transport, a shared taxi service with fixed fares has also been introduced on a trial basis. It will cover two routes: one from Salerno Airport to Naples Central railway station, and another from Salerno Airport to Salerno Central railway station.
