Residents of the temporarily occupied Oleshky in Kherson Oblast, taken out during a humanitarian operation, crossed the Ukrainian border in Chernihiv Oblast. Their arrival on the territory controlled by Ukraine was announced on October 31 by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
As reported by "Babel" citing the president's statement, the evacuees will be provided with the necessary assistance. Zelensky emphasized that government structures, regional and local authorities must help people adapt after leaving the occupation.
The route passed through Russia and Belarus
The evacuees were accompanied by a Ukrainian delegation headed by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Lubinets.
After leaving Oleshky, the people were taken to Anapa in Russia, from where they were transported by planes to Gomel in Belarus. Then they continued their journey to the Ukrainian border. The arrival of the planes in Gomel on the morning of October 31 was reported by Deutsche Welle.
Zelensky's statement confirms the next stage of the operation: the evacuees have already reached the territory controlled by Ukraine.
Humanitarian access to Oleshky is expected to be maintained
According to the president, during the agreed ceasefire, roads to Oleshky were demined, humanitarian cargo was delivered, and people were evacuated from the city and the surrounding community.
Zelensky expressed hope for maintaining humanitarian access to Oleshky. He thanked the Ukrainian military for ensuring security conditions, the ombudsman's team for implementing the mission, and the American side and the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump for mediation.
Earlier, Kurs reported on the first results of the evacuation: on the evening of October 30, Lubinets confirmed the delivery of aid and the departure of the residents, but at that time the people were still on the road.
