For Wednesday, November 4, the National Bank set the following official exchange rates: - US dollar – 45.6660 UAH (+0.1312 UAH to the official rate for Tuesday, November 3); - euro – 51.0582 UAH (+0.0055 UAH to the official rate for Tuesday, November 3).
Rates were set at 15:30 on November 3 and reflect the following trends:
1. On Tuesday, immediately after the start of trading on the interbank foreign exchange market, cashless dollar quotes reached 45.80 UAH on the bid side, setting a new historical high. After that, the National Bank conducted another massive currency intervention, selling about 200 million dollars in 10 minutes. The NBU's actions had an effect: the rise in quotes stopped. The average price of transactions at 12:00 was 45.7139 UAH – 24.6 kopecks higher than on Monday.
For some time, transactions were in a narrow range of 45.62-46.67 UAH. After 14:00, the National Bank increased pressure on the market, causing quotes to decline. By the close of trading, quotes reached 45.52 UAH on the bid side. The average price decreased slightly. Nevertheless, the NBU raised the official dollar rate for Wednesday by 13.1 kopecks.
2. The euro on the international FOREX market on Tuesday made sharp fluctuations, moving up and down between the levels of 1.11751 and 1.12067 dollars. The market is waiting for the results of the US midterm elections, which start today towards evening Kyiv time.
At the time of fixing, the euro was sold at 1.11808 dollars - 31.8 points lower than on Monday (1.12118). Therefore, despite the increase in the official dollar rate, the NBU changed the official euro rate for Wednesday by only 0.5 kopecks.
As we can see, through huge currency interventions (from 300 million dollars a day), the National Bank managed to stabilize the situation on the interbank foreign exchange market.
