European Union Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova has called on leading Western media to continue covering the war and intensifying Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. According to her, international attention to Ukraine is waning precisely as Russia steps up strikes on civilians and energy infrastructure.

The diplomat wrote this on Facebook on November 3.

Mathernova supported an appeal by leading Ukrainian journalists to international colleagues and influential Western publications urging them not to turn away from what is happening in Ukraine.

In the EU ambassador's view, war fatigue in Western societies is growing amid an unprecedented increase in the intensity of Russian attacks ahead of winter.

The diplomat stressed that Ukraine particularly needs the attention of democratic states, increased sanctions pressure on Russia, and continued international support right now.

As an example, Mathernova cited massive strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. According to her, over the past 24 hours Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure more than 20 times, striking facilities in ten regions of Ukraine.

Russia used various means of destruction for the attacks, including missiles, aerial bombs, and jet drones.

The EU Ambassador warned that declining international attention to the war may occur at a time when the Ukrainian population is especially acutely experiencing the consequences of Russian shelling.

Mathernova noted that residents of Ukraine continue to suffer the effects of strikes on the energy sector, and civilian facilities remain under threat of new attacks.

In her address, the diplomat called war fatigue an unacceptable luxury at a time when Ukrainians face disruptions in heating and electricity supply, and Russian strikes continue to kill civilians.

The statement came amid one of Russia's most large-scale attacks on Ukraine's energy system. Earlier on November 3, NPC Ukrenergo reported that strikes on energy facilities have continued since the night, and infrastructure damage is forcing emergency power outages.

In Kyiv, the consequences of the shelling led to water supply disruptions and the halting of ground electric transport. In some districts of the capital, authorities began setting up heating points.

Mathernova's appeal to Western journalists is a public call to maintain attention on Ukraine, not an announcement of new EU decisions on sanctions or additional aid.
