Ukrainian nuclear power plants were forced to reduce electricity production due to large-scale Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Damage to power grids limits the ability to transmit generated electricity, so the return of nuclear power plants to nominal levels will depend on restoration work.

On November 4, First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov announced this during a briefing on the operational situation in the energy system.

According to the official, due to systematic Russian strikes on energy facilities, nuclear plants are forced to operate at reduced capacity.

Restoration of electricity production to nominal levels will occur gradually, after repair of power grids damaged as a result of shelling.

Russian troops continue to attack not only power plants, but also substations and other infrastructure necessary to transmit electricity to consumers.

Thus, even if generating equipment remains operational, damage to power grids may limit the volumes of electricity that nuclear plants can deliver to the energy system.

The Ministry of Energy did not specify which nuclear power plants reduced generation or how much their total capacity decreased. The timing of full production restoration is also not yet named.

At the same time, the situation with electricity supply remains difficult in certain regions of Ukraine. According to the ministry's assessment, the biggest problems are currently observed in Kyiv and Kyiv region, where network restrictions are applied due to serious damage to power equipment.

In Kharkiv region, emergency outages continue due to equipment damage and reduced voltage in the high-voltage network.

In most other regions, energy companies apply hourly outage schedules, and for industrial enterprises - capacity restrictions.

The Ministry of Energy emphasized that restoration work continues around the clock. Further increase in nuclear generation will depend on eliminating power grid damage and stabilizing the operation of the energy system.
