Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov stated the need for decisive actions in connection with the exposure of an alleged criminal organization, in the activities of which, according to the investigation, high-ranking law enforcement officers participated. He emphasized that positions, ranks, and official powers cannot exempt from responsibility for crimes.
Budanov wrote this on November 5 in his Telegram channel, commenting on the events of the previous day.
"The law is the same for everyone. Positions, ranks, and powers cannot be grounds for avoiding responsibility. Corruption and any crimes must receive proper legal assessment, and the guilty must bear responsibility," — said the head of the Presidential Office.
According to Budanov, the situation requires timely and decisive actions. He emphasized the need for an objective and independent investigation, as well as fair decisions.
"A strong rule-of-law state, in which the law applies equally to everyone, is our common goal," — he added.
The statement came against the backdrop of the large-scale anti-corruption operation "Carthage". On November 4, NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office reported the exposure of a criminal organization whose members, according to the investigation, paid bribes to high-ranking law enforcement officers for protection of fraudulent call centers and other illegal businesses.
According to NABU information, active SBU, National Police, and Prosecutor General's Office employees may be involved in the organization's activities. The investigation is also checking episodes related to illegal drug trafficking, production of counterfeit currency, assaults, and kidnappings.
On November 5, NABU reported suspicions against five alleged members of the organization, including senior SBU and National Police officials. In total, the investigation established the involvement of at least 12 people in the group. The guilt of the suspects must be determined by a court.
Budanov did not specify which measures he deems necessary in connection with the investigation.
