Zhytomyr is introducing additional electricity saving measures due to significant damage to the energy system after Russian attacks. Electric transport will temporarily stop operating in the city, and street lighting will be switched to an energy-saving mode.
The Zhytomyr City Council reported this on November 5 in a statement.
Authorities explained that reducing the load on the energy system is necessary to prevent new emergencies and stabilize power supply.
The following restrictions and saving measures are being introduced in the city:
- Electric transport will temporarily suspend operations.
- Street lighting will be switched to an economy mode.
- Residents are urged to reduce electricity consumption as much as possible, especially during peak hours.
- Businesses are recommended to limit decorative and advertising lighting, illumination of facades, signs, and electronic screens.
A separate warning concerns drivers and pedestrians. Due to power supply interruptions, traffic lights may malfunction or be completely switched off. City authorities urge road users to exercise increased caution, follow road signs, and give way to pedestrians.
The power supply situation in Zhytomyr Oblast remains difficult. On November 5, according to the order of NPC Ukrenergo, emergency power outages were applied in the region. Consumption restrictions for industrial enterprises are also in effect.
Residents can check current outage schedules on the Zhytomyroblenergo website.
The city council has not yet specified how long the additional saving measures will remain in effect and when electric transport will resume full operation.
