US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has denied reports that he intends to leave President Donald Trump's administration. According to him, he plans to continue working until the end of the presidential term, but does not want to discuss his own political future.
Rubio stated this on November 5 in an interview with The New York Times, commenting on reports by American media about a possible resignation and preparation for the 2028 presidential election.
"Working for President Trump until the end of his term has always been my plan", - emphasized the Secretary of State.
He also said he does not understand the origin of reports about a possible resignation.
"Honestly, I don't know where it all comes from. I like the work I do. And I always laugh when they say I'm going to leave my post. I ask: 'Which one exactly?'" - noted Rubio, who simultaneously holds the positions of Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to the US President.
At the same time, he refused to answer questions about possible participation in the 2028 presidential election.
"I literally will not talk about 2028 anymore. Simply won't", - Rubio said.
Earlier, on November 4, The Washington Sun reported possible personnel changes in the Trump administration after the US midterm elections to Congress. According to the publication, among the candidates for high positions is the American Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, who could potentially replace Rubio as Secretary of State. Gor himself denied interest in another position.
Subsequently, Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that Rubio and his advisers are considering various options for future political careers. According to the agency, the Secretary of State has already discussed the possibility of resignation with White House representatives, who asked him to stay.
The US State Department denied Bloomberg's information, calling the reports false and based on anonymous sources.
Rubio previously stated that he is ready to support US Vice President JD Vance if he decides to run in the 2028 presidential election. At the same time, the Secretary of State himself has not announced any intention to participate in the elections.
No official decision on Rubio's resignation or replacement as US Secretary of State has been announced at this time.
