The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has started collecting reports from citizens about problems with mobile communication and internet during power outages. The received information will help identify problematic network areas and improve its resilience to blackouts.
The press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation reported this on November 6 press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
The ministry notes that currently 92% of mobile base stations can operate up to eight hours on batteries, and 70% are provided with the possibility of autonomous operation for more than three days thanks to generators.
However, due to constant Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, equipment can fail, and mobile communication can disappear even where backup power is provided.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation admits that network readiness indicators in reports do not always correspond to the real situation on the ground. Therefore, the agency decided to additionally collect information directly from users.
Ukrainians whose mobile internet or telephone communication disappears immediately after a power outage are asked to fill out a special online form.
The collected appeals are planned to be used to identify problematic locations and increase the effectiveness of measures implemented together with mobile operators and local communities.
The ministry emphasized that ensuring stable communication during long power outages remains one of the priority tasks. It is especially important to maintain the ability to call loved ones and contact emergency services.
