Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on November 6 sharply criticized President Volodymyr Zelensky after his statement about the capital's insufficient preparation for the heating season. The mayor rejected accusations against the Kyiv authorities and stated that problems with energy supply are primarily caused by Russian attacks on Ukraine's unified energy system.
Klitschko wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
The mayor demanded to clarify which decisions at the city level, in the president's opinion, were not implemented and led to the difficult situation with electricity supply.
Klitschko reminded that Kyiv began the heating season as early as October 16, and questioned the assertion that city authorities could have prevented the consequences of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.
He also inquired at which meetings Kyiv's winter preparation is discussed and for what reason representatives of the capital's authorities are not invited to them.
Separately, the mayor pointed out that Ukraine's energy system is unified and interconnected. According to him, damage to energy facilities in different regions of the country inevitably affects the electricity supply of the capital as well.
Klitschko accused the central authorities of manipulation and attempts to portray Kyiv as the city with the most serious problems. According to him, such statements are related to the desire to remove him from office.
The mayor also stated that the central authorities create obstacles to the work of city services and do not provide the capital with necessary assistance. He presented these accusations as his own assessment of the actions of the country's leadership.
Klitschko paid special attention to the work of energy workers and utility workers who continue to restore infrastructure after Russian attacks, often risking their own lives.
In conclusion, the mayor called for an end to the search for those responsible in a situation that affects the whole country, and to focus on joint work of central and local authorities.
Recall that earlier on November 6, Zelensky stated that the most difficult situation with electricity supply had developed precisely in Kyiv. The president linked prolonged power and water outages both to Russian attacks and to the failure to implement decisions on preparation for the heating season at the city level.
