In Bratislava, Slovak activist and screenwriter Gehelena Hudacekova saved a man who had insulted her shortly before for helping Ukraine. After a severe allergic reaction, she gave him emergency assistance, despite the conflict between them.
This was reported on November 6 by the Czech outlet Novinky, citing the activist's own account. Information about the medical intervention was confirmed by the Slovak emergency medical service.
The incident took place in a Vietnamese restaurant in Bratislava. According to Hudacekova, an elderly man sitting at the next table recognized her and began shouting insults because of her activities in support of Ukrainian military personnel.
The activist responded by wishing him a pleasant meal, after which the man returned to his table.
When the main course was brought to the customer, his companion warned that the food might contain nuts, to which he is allergic. She also reminded him that the man had previously been hospitalized because of such products.
However, he refused to give up the paid dish, saying he did not intend to throw away seven euros.
Soon the man developed a severe allergic reaction: his face turned red, his eyes swelled, he began coughing heavily and had difficulty breathing.
Hudacekova immediately took an adrenaline auto-injector from her first aid kit and injected the drug into the man's thigh. According to her, the medication worked almost immediately.
After providing first aid, the activist called paramedics and informed the dispatcher about the severe allergic reaction and the administration of adrenaline.
The operations center of the Slovak emergency medical service confirmed that adrenaline had indeed been administered to the patient before the paramedics arrived. Thanks to this, the man was able to breathe on his own, although swelling persisted.
Rescuers gave him additional help, stabilized his condition, and took him to the hospital.
According to Hudacekova, the man's companion hugged her and thanked her for the help. The victim himself did not speak to her. The activist does not know anything about his subsequent condition.
Gehelena Hudacekova has been supporting Ukraine for a long time. She organizes fundraisers for Ukrainian military personnel and personally delivers humanitarian and material aid, including to areas near the front line.
The activist said she got into the habit of always carrying a first aid kit after trips to Ukraine. That is precisely why she had the necessary medication.
Commenting on the incident, Hudacekova admitted that the war and expressions of hatred had greatly affected her. However, according to her, even insults could not be a reason to refuse help to a person when his life was in danger.
