DBR deciphered the "black box" of the Su-24M that crashed in Khmelnytskyi region

The State Bureau of Investigation has completed deciphering the flight recorder of the Su-24M aircraft that crashed in Khmelnytskyi region. The obtained data is being studied as part of the investigation into the causes of the aviation accident.

The aviation accident occurred on June 16, 2026, at around 19:00 near one of the settlements in the region. The aircraft was performing a flight according to a combat order. As a result of the Su-24M crash, two servicemen died.

The investigation previously established that for this aircraft, the sortie was the second one that day. Before the first and second flights, the technical personnel of the military unit found no remarks regarding the condition of the aircraft. The service documentation was also prepared in accordance with established requirements.

The SBI confirmed that the crew was performing a combat mission. Its details are known to investigators, but they are not disclosed in the interests of national security.

As part of the case, law enforcement officers conducted dozens of interrogations, including those of the command, colleagues, and relatives of the deceased. It was established that before the flight both servicemen passed the necessary medical examination and did not complain about their health. The investigation also refuted the previously circulated information that one of the crew members allegedly managed to eject.

After the crash, investigators seized not only the flight recorder, but also the aircraft log, documents on the crew's medical examination, the flight director's log, and other service documentation. These materials should help reconstruct the circumstances of the preparation and execution of the flight.

In parallel, an official investigation is being conducted by the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After its completion, an independent aviation-technical expert examination is provided. It is the comprehensive set of collected materials, including the flight recorder information, that should allow establishing the final cause of the disaster.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Art. 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of flight rules or preparation for them, which led to a crash or other grave consequences. Procedural guidance is provided by the Khmelnytskyi Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Western Region.
