Zelensky defined new measures to strengthen the defense of Zaporizhzhia and Donbas

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a trip to the front, held a meeting with the military command and defined new measures to strengthen the defense of Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. In particular, two revamped military groupings will be created in Donetsk region, and units on the Zaporizhzhia direction will receive increased provision with necessary means.

The meeting took place on August 26 in Zaporizhzhia region. It was attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander of the Air Assault Forces Oleh Apostol, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert Brovdi, commander of the 3rd Army Corps Andriy Biletskyi, commander of the 1st Corps of the National Guard "Azov" Denys Prokopenko, and head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov.

Drapatyi reported to the president on the current situation at the front and individual defensive operations in key directions. Biletskyi and Prokopenko reported on the situation in their corps' areas of responsibility and presented proposals to increase the effectiveness of units.

One of the decisions will be the strengthening of Ukrainian positions in Donetsk region through two revamped troop groupings. At the proposal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, they will be led by Andriy Biletskyi and Denys Prokopenko.

"Our positions in Donetsk region will be strengthened thanks to two revamped groupings," — Zelensky stated.

Separately, the defense of Zaporizhzhia and the region was discussed. After Ivan Fedorov's report, the president instructed to increase efforts to protect the city and region, as well as directions on which the security of other cities and communities depends.

Zelensky also said that units in the Zaporizhzhia direction will receive more necessary means. In particular, ground robotic systems are mentioned.

The president instructed to take decisions to increase both the production of such equipment and its procurement for the Defense Forces.

In addition, the military and political leadership agreed on a more systematic approach to the use of medium-range strike means. Zelensky did not disclose operational details of these decisions.

Based on the results of the meeting, necessary personnel changes were also agreed upon. The president said that relevant decisions were discussed with Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

During the trip, Zelensky visited units performing tasks on the Oleksandrivka direction. At meetings with the military, they also discussed the provision of drones, needs for long-range artillery and small radar stations, direct financing of brigades, training of servicemen, and other issues of troop support.
