According to the Ukrainian investigation, Russian military captured two servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine near Dobropillya in Donetsk Oblast and then shot them dead with automatic weapons.

On September 11, the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office reported this. The murder occurred on September 2, 2026.

According to the investigation, the two National Guardsmen were at a firing position in a forest belt near Dobropillya and were performing a combat mission. Russian soldiers captured the Ukrainian servicemen.

The investigation established that representatives of the Russian armed forces subsequently shot both prisoners with automatic weapons. Law enforcement officers are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident and identifying the Russian servicemen who may be involved in the murder.

The Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings for a war crime resulting in the death of people, under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the SBU in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.

The prosecutor's office emphasized that the murder of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime.
