Sybiha in the UN Security Council: Russia's war has become a problem for the whole world
Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, in his speech at the UN Security Council meeting, emphasized that Russia's war against Ukraine poses a threat to the entire world. He stated this during the UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday, September 23, according to Європейська правда.
Sybiha said that this war is not purely Ukrainian or European, and its consequences are felt worldwide.
In this context, the minister recalled Russia's blocking of Ukrainian food exports in 2022 and currently.
"When Russia first blocked Ukrainian ports four years ago, food prices worldwide jumped by twenty-five percent. Africa, Asia and the Middle East suffered the most. Now, because Putin refuses to end this war, the Black Sea is blocked again. Four hundred million people who depend on Ukrainian grain are not receiving it", – explained Sybiha, adding that the consequences of this may be felt for years to come.
He also recalled that Russia recruits men from Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America to take part in its war against Ukraine.
"We have identified at least three thousand mercenaries from thirty-seven African countries in the ranks of the Russian army. And this is only the documented cases. Encouraged by his staged elections, Putin is now planning a new call-up at home and even more aggressive recruitment in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America", – added the foreign minister.
Furthermore, according to Sybiha, Moscow supports Iran with weapons, technology and intelligence data, and chaos in the region and high oil prices are beneficial to Russia.
The minister recalled the threat in Asia, where Russia is drawing North Korea into the war, destabilizing the Korean Peninsula.
"In return Kim (Jong-un – ed.) receives technology, training, resources – for example, drone operators trained in Russia. There are no guarantees that he will not use them to destabilize the Korean Peninsula and the entire Indo-Pacific region", – he noted.
Sybiha added that in Central Asia and the South Caucasus, Russia uses economic pressure and energy blackmail to destabilize its neighbors.
In addition, the minister emphasized, the Russian Federation is already waging war against Europe, using arson, murders, airspace violations, cyberattacks, disinformation, election interference, as well as energy resources, food and migration as weapons.
"This is not a 'hybrid' war. Give up that word. Russia's war against Europe is no longer hybrid. Instead of defending peace, Russia is fomenting war. This is everyone's problem", – Sybiha declared.
"We must stop this war now. Before Putin enters your home. He is already on the threshold", – he warned.
This week, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said that the threat from the Russian Federation is real and downplaying it is irresponsible.
Recently, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that intelligence data indicates Russian "plans for hybrid strikes" against countries supporting Ukraine.
