Following the Russian attack overnight into November 7, Kyiv’s Northern Bridge was closed in both directions. Damage to energy infrastructure disrupted the capital’s electricity supply and affected water and heating systems. According to morning updates from city authorities, five people were hurt, including a child.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said specialists were inspecting the damaged Northern Bridge. He later specified that the road surface, trolleybus overhead wires and a power line had been damaged. Road maintenance crews and municipal services are working at the site. No reopening time was given in the morning updates.
Anyone travelling between the two banks of the Dnipro should take the bridge closure into account. Metro services resumed on all lines in the morning, although reliable operation depends on the external power supply.
Kyiv Metro warned that frequent and significant voltage fluctuations could cause temporary service suspensions, longer intervals between trains and brief escalator stoppages. Staff are providing operational updates on station platforms. Underground stations continue to serve as shelters during air raid alerts.
According to Klitschko, energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions were damaged overnight. This left Kyiv facing an extremely difficult electricity supply situation and disrupted heating and water services. Energy workers and municipal crews are carrying out repairs.
In the morning, RBC-Ukraine reported a notification in the YASNO app stating that emergency power cuts had been introduced in Kyiv at 07:05. Hourly outage schedules do not apply while emergency restrictions are in force.
Restrictions may change throughout the day. Residents should check faults, current outages and available power supply estimates for their specific address using DTEK’s Kyiv address lookup service or the Kyiv Digital app.
A 14-year-old was among the five people hurt in the capital. Two of the injured were hospitalised, the mayor said. These figures update earlier reports of fewer casualties.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, part of the ground-floor façade of a five-storey residential building was destroyed in the Solomianskyi district. The blast shattered windows in three other five-storey buildings. A two-storey building on the grounds of a kindergarten was destroyed.
A parked truck and a non-residential building also caught fire. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The morning updates did not provide citywide figures for the number of buildings without water or heating. No timeline for the full restoration of utility services was announced. Information on the damage and recovery efforts continues to be updated.
